How to Play (QC Inspection)

As a CNC machinist, you must inspect your parts to ensure they are within the required tolerance. In this simulator, you will act as the Quality Control (QC) inspector.

Your Task:

  • Look at the Target Dimension and Tolerance at the top of the screen.
  • Click MEASURE PART. The micrometer will close onto the part.
  • Read the scale on the Zoom Canvas.
  • If the actual reading falls within the target tolerance, click IN TOLERANCE.
  • If it is out of bounds, click OUT OF TOLERANCE.

How to read Metric (0.01mm)

  • The sleeve has upper lines (1.0mm) and lower lines (0.5mm).
  • The rotating thimble has 50 lines (each is 0.01mm).
  • Add the last visible sleeve line to the thimble line that lines up with the center datum.

How to read Imperial (0.001")

  • The sleeve has large numbers (0.100") and smaller subdivisions (0.025").
  • The rotating thimble has 25 lines (each is 0.001").
  • Add the last visible sleeve line (e.g. 0.200 + 0.050) to the thimble line.
